Coaching Terms and Conditions - Coaches

We are delighted that you have chosen to become part of the NHS Coaching Register.

The coaching register aims to:

  • Support organisations to maximise their coaching capability and capacity
  • Support the practice and continuing professional development of NHS Coaches
  • Develop an inclusive coaching culture whilst maintaining and promoting excellent practice in coaching.

and in doing so, improve the resilience of NHS and social care staff to improve the experience of our patients and users.

Confidentiality

The content of coaching conversations remains confidential to the coach and coachee. Any specific details entered on this system are not visible to a third party. In using this site all users agree to the following limits to confidentiality.

  • Where there is a perceived risk of harm to self or others.
  • Where there is concern of a breach of organisational policy.
  • Where illegal activity is suspected.

Information submitted to the register will be used to report and evaluate the levels and range of coaching activity undertaken at a National, Regional and Organisational level. The use of this information will not breach confidentiality arrangements.

All coaches using this site are required to: (It is the responsibility of the coach to ensure that they continue to meet these requirements)

  • Provide coaching on a voluntary basis ensuring explicit organisational support is sought if undertaken within work hours.
  • Have completed a recognised accredited coaching programme and have successfully completed the final assessment - e.g EMCC Coach Practitioner, ILM Level 5 or equivalent. This must be uploaded as part of the registration process for an application to be approved
  • Take responsibility for maintaining an up-to-date profile within the system
  • Have a well maintained learning log / portfolio of evidence of coaching
  • Demonstrate regular and relevant CPD
  • Access regular coaching supervision with an appropriately trained/qualified Coach Supervisor
  • Record evidence of CPD and Supervision undertaken
  • Practice within the ethical principles of the European Mentoring and Coaching Council (EMCC) - Global Code of Ethics (emccuk.org)
  • Adhere to the principles and aims of the NHS People Plan and NHS people Promise
  • Respond to coachee requests within 2 weeks of being received
  • Inform Regional centre when unable to continue to coach
  • Commit to coaching for a minimum of 12 hours per calendar year
  • Record any coaching within 2 weeks of activity where requested
  • Facilitate a contracting meeting to set individual and/or organisational objectives prior to the commencement of a coaching relationship
  • Complete a post-evaluation once a relationship comes to an end where requested

External coaches

  • External coaches must have suitable indemnity cover in place (by external coaches, we mean those who are not employed or have never been employed by the NHS or an organisation delivering NHS funded care.) This must be uploaded as part of the registration process for an application to be approved.
  • External coaches who are past NHS employees are able to coach on a volunteering basis. This must be explicit to the coachee and you are still required to follow the same responsibilities as a coach on the hub.
