Mentoring
Mentoring is a developmental relationship in which the mentor provides support and knowledge to the mentee, helping them to discover more about themselves and develop their potential capability.
It is a professional relationship designed to support career progression, widen an individuals' networks, develop leadership capability and improve performance. The mentoring relationship tends to be ongoing, over a longer period.
Mentors may have a specific qualification, but largely their skills and lived experience provide the tools they need. They provide space and time for you to think, whilst offering guidance and support. Ideally the mentee looks for a mentor who has the expertise in their field of work, or relevant to their long-term aspirations, no more than two levels higher so their experience is relatable.
